So, billionaires are hot, sexy alpha males and they have their own magical appeal – Nathaniel from Taming the Tycoon which is out next month from Indulgence is a very wealthy man. Demons, shape shifters, vamps and weres also have a dark allure. And bad boys….well, what can I say about them? Love me a bad boy.
BUT….. secretly, deep down, the hero I love the most is the one who’s good with his hands. No, not that way, get your minds out of the gutter! Although, its been my experience that men who are good with stuff are usually that way because they’re curious about the way things work and don’t give up til they have it conquered – and you can bet your last cent that includes the female anatomy!
I’m talking about a guy with a tool belt.
You know the type. He can shear a sheep, build a shelter, chop an entire winter’s supply of firewood and slay a dragon all before breakfast. He can whip out a screwdriver, fix a lightbulb, change your tyre and know what the thingamajig on the whoositwhat does.
And how to fix it if it breaks down.
A capable man.
In my book, capable = sexy!
And he does it all with that laid back “t’werent nothing” smile.
They usually also have bodies that are fit and toned. Not from the gym or anything so metrosexual. From working outside in the fresh air, using their muscles the way nature intended.
Tanned, toned, strong.
Cowboys, construction workers, handy men, firemen are the types that immediately come to mind. Any kind of tradie (as we call them here in Oz) gets me a little hot under the collar.
So while a rich, bad boy vamp works, give me a sexy fireman or a cowboy with a tool belt any day!
What about you? Does a blue collar, blue-jeaned, tool-belted hero do it for you?

Oh yes! There’s nothing sexier than a shirtless man in jeans and a tool belt building stuff. *happy sigh*

Lol Katee. It’s a joy to behold, isn’t it?

I actually prefer blue collar heroes! And I think it’s the capable aspect. Sure, if you’re rich enough you can pay to have someone fix things when they break, but I like a man who can look under the hood and get down and dirty to make everything okay again.

A woman after my own heart, Molly. There’s just something about a shirtless man under the hood of a car!

Amy- you hit the nail on the head with this one! Nothing better than a guy with a tool belt and no shirt!

Have to say his wondeful way of fixing things was one of the reasons I married my man. And because he understood what I meant when I said the whatchamthingy is broken. I’m down with handy heros too.

lol Michele – my man is quite handy, can fix almost anything. Started out as a young boy fixing his mother’s poor flogged washign machine every other week and tinkering arund truck engines with his father. As a teenager “capable” never counted in my “things a man must have to be with me” fantasy but it will forever more. Somehow it makes him seem so much more manly!

I have a guy like that in my DIY series. Derek Ellis, handyman and home renovator, good with power tools, wears faded jeans and a low slung tool belt. Uh-huh.
