Supporting Cast

Never underestimate the power of the secondary character.  They are versatile and crucial and just a whole lotta fun.  Here, we take a look at some secondary characters and their traits.

The Weasel

He’s slick, he’s sly, he’ll make your skin crawl from his smarminess. He’s the character who’s always scheming, and will try to bring you on board with his trusty smile. You know better than to trust him, but every once in a while he’ll still get you into trouble. (Eddie Haskell from Leave it to Beaver)

The Drama Queen

She should have won all the thespian awards available and is a diva of her own making.  She does everything with the theatrics of an Oscar winner, wearing out the audience who are caught behind the ropes of her melodramatic red carpet.  To her, life is just one big audition for the next great role.

The Snob

You love to hate this character who will make you believe that you are inferior to him/her. No one is smarter, prettier, more handsome, or as educated then the snob, and the snob will make sure you know it. If you have nothing to offer him/her, don’t waste your time—he/she won’t talk to you anyways.

The Wise Teacher

Who do you turn to when your life is a mess, you don’t know what you’re doing, and you’re terrified you’re about to make an enormous mistake? The wise teacher. This character will calm you down, reassure you that you have the answers, and point you in the right direction. (Glinda the Good Witch from Wizard of Oz, Yoda from Star Wars)

The Crankypuss

Really…a tiny pink pill would probably do this chick or chuck wonders in the ol’ attitude department.  Talk about needing a ‘tudetorial.  The crankypuss is always raining on your parade and makes a sour apple sound super sweet.  Smiling? Hmmmppphhh.  Probably not a realistic action for this crankypuss or pants.

The Scene Stealer

This character is full of charm, humor, charisma, and drama. Scene Stealers make you laugh, make you cry, and make you want to slap them upside the head. You can’t wait to see them again. You can’t look away. You can’t wait to read more. And you kind of wish they were the star of the story. (Lula from Janet Evanovich’s books)
