Giving up the cherry

The hero of my current WIP, Jeremy Turner has a thing for blondes. And brunettes. And redheads ain’t bad either. Only thing he doesn’t do is love. When his fiancée was killed in the Jaguar he’d been driving, he swore he’d never love again. Doesn’t mean he’s against making love though. Chasing tail has become a sport he could get a college scholarship for. It means though that he’s a little insensitive. No, that’s not quite true, he’s very sensitive, he doesn’t intentionally hurt anyone, and he’s always upfront that fun is fun and love is…for other people. His reputation has been carefully built up. EVERYONE knows that he’s a player with a Capital P. Yet somehow, sensitive types come flocking to his door.

Or something like that…I’d written Jeremy doing the wild thing with all and sundry, his only regret being the virgins he’d deflowered and the hurt they’d poured all over him like cold tea. Virginal hurt, you understand, that came from realizing Jeremy really was a player and that there really wasn’t going to be any happy ever after.

In all other areas; backing up colleagues, sorting out kerfuffle’s, supporting his baby sister, Jeremy’s a top bloke. But someone told me his don’t ask don’t tell policy over virginity was a shag too far in this world of contemporary romance. So, as ya’ll probably know better than me, can you tell me, can a hero pop a few cherries and still be a hero? Or if he does share a girls first time, does she have to be the one and only – even if he only finds out later on.

About Michele de Winton
I was born in the mid 1970’s amid a burgeoning sprawl of vineyards and new retirement homes. Despite training in law (or perhaps because of it) I've been a dancer, producer, writer, and all round arty type in various countries for most of my life but call New Zealand home. Maybe it's a reflection of the women around me, but I'm a believer that women can do anything and so my heroines are the same. It doesn't mean my men are wimps though! You can count on some fine looking heros who know just how to make a woman melt. Oh, and I'm a hopeless romantic, so I'm a fan of seriously happy endings. Entangled Publishing and The Wild Rose Press are where my romance novels call home. Come say hi at www.micheledewinton.com

  1. Laura says:

Maybe after the first few times it happens, he starts asking and doesn’t do it with virgins anymore, once he realizes the hurt he is causing them, since he is a caring person & doesn’t want to hurt anyone. I can see it happening a few times before he thinks about it though. Is he like a virgin magnet?

  2. Ha, a virgin magnet, nice. No I had him popping two maybe three cherries, but even that was too much according to my CP so I’m taking it right down to one and chalking it up as ANOTHER of his love mistakes. Or that’s my plan at the mo. Thanks for your thoughts, I agree with you, he might have to check in with his dates from now on. Now how do you bring that up in a conversation and keep the mood…;-)
