Hey y’all! I just wrapped up a book where my hero (a 534 year old vampire)
walked on the edge of good and bad. He broke into houses and businesses, hacked into computers, and conducted illegal surveillance whenever he felt like it. He also owned a nightclub which catered to every one of the seven deadly sins and openly told the police that he intended to commit murder.
And this guy was my hero?
Yep! He did all of this because he was compelled to protect the heroine and ensure that she can keep her business and remain safe. While he knew he was committing wrongs – he believed that it was essential to get the correct results. He refused to apologize and all of this added up to make him absolutely delicious.
And, I’m finding that this anti-hero is what I’m loving these days. People are not all good or bad and I enjoy watching the play of the two sides of the coin. it makes for a fascinating character.
My newest favorite TV anti-hero is Agent Paul Briggs on the TV show, Graceland. Brigs is smart, talented, brave and loyal. he is also conniving, ruthless, duplicitous, and has serious anger management issues. Top it off with battling an addiction and you’ve got a guy with many layers.
Is he a good guy? A bad guy?
I’m constantly changing my mind – especially when Agent Briggs interacts with the newest recruit, Agent Mike Warren- the FBI’s golden boy who was sent to Graceland to figure out what is really going on with Agent Briggs.
And the best part about the character of Agent Briggs? Everytime I think I’ve got him figured out, he surprises me.
And that is so damn sexy.
Who is your favorite anti-hero?
