Stripping Down Second Chance Romances

I seem to always be confessing things in these blog posts, but here comes another one. I absolutely adore Second Chance love stories. You know the ones I’m talking about – where the lovers tried it before and, for whatever reason, it didn’t work out. Then life throws them together again and, suddenly, that spark is back. It’s downright magical.

My love for these types of stories is odd, mostly because in real life I don’t believe in that sort of thing. You have your chance. If it doesn’t work out (personally—obviously this doesn’t apply to everyone), then it’s burned, cursed, salted ground behind me.

Perhaps that’s why I can’t seem to put them down. There’s something to jagged and delicious about two people who have a chasm of emotional history behind them. Maybe she cheated, maybe he left her when she needed him the most, maybe they couldn’t seem to talk without screaming at each other. The reason doesn’t matter so much as the fact they aren’t together any more.

Watching that history fade in the face of a new, deeper love? For me, that’s priceless.

What about you? What are some of your favorite types of romance stories?

Great question! I’ve been thinking about this lately after reading The Marriage Proposal, by Jennifer Probst. I liked the best friend’s brother scenario in that book. I love the idea of second chances, too. I don’t know if I’m as doubtful as you, Katee, and I hope they exist for people. That’s definitely a romantic theme.

I love a second chance love story. The stories of coming back to your old home town and seeing the boy that got away and still feeling something of the old flames. I hope they work out and the couple will find the true love that got away.
