Time and the Immortal Hero

Hi everyone –

Great to be back on the Naked Hero!!!

Night Thief has just been released, and I encountered an interesting twist when I wrote this hero.

Kane is an immortal Night Walker, part of the Mayan world. I actually based the creation of my four original Night Walker brothers on the four Mayan Becabs, immortals who hold up the four corners of the world.

So Kane has been protecting the mortal world since mankind began.

For him, time has never had a meaning. He never ages. The world changes around him, but time remains endless. An hour, a day, a century, none of it impacted him.

Until the night he met Rita. The more he gets to know her, the shorter each night becomes. It was really interesting as I wrote to see time start to impact him. All of a sudden, he wished for more time. It drove him almost as crazy as Rita did! LOL

Here’s the blurb for Night Thief:

After the fall of the Mayan civilization, Kane, an immortal Night Walker, has taken refuge in France for over 800 years. The modern world holds little interest for him until the night he meets the Golden Thief and is robbed of much more than his pocket watch.

Marguerite Rousseau is living a double life. By day she is the assistant to an eccentric French artist, Antoine Berjon, and by night she dons elegant evening gowns to woo French dignitaries before lifting their wallets.

Sparks ignite when Kane captures the thief, but Marguerite harbors a dark secret that could ruin them both.

I’ve got scenes from the book up on my pinterest page too… :)

The moment an immortal hero finds himself falling for a mortal, I think the quicksand of time gives them an urgency they may have lost… And it’s one of my favorite parts of writing Night Walkers, vampires, gods, etc.

Time is the one thing that even they can’t control… :)
