What are you reading?

I’m under deadline for my next book, and the date for my appointed blog arrived finding me unprepared.  So, I’m keeping it simple.  What are you reading right now? Are there new authors you’ve discovered recently? Who are the old reliable authors you turn to time and time again.  I’m excited to read your answers and as soon as I meet my deadline I’ll have plenty of new titles to add to my TBR pile!

  1. I’ve been picking up old favorites that other people have recommended. Right now it’s Parade’s End by Ford Maddox Ford and then I’ve got Bring up the Bones by Hilary Mantel on my list.

lately I’ve been reading some old Jim Butcher, Love Harry Dresden and some F. Paul Wilson (Repairman Jack) and am thinking of picking up where I left off on the James Rollins series.. With some short romances thrown in there too :) I just read Leslie Langtry for the first time and it was a fun short read. Next I have Misa’s witch to discover! But the coolness in the air makes me want to curl up with a good historical- looking for rec’s there. I always go waaaay back to my faves and would love some new one’s too. Regency, scotland, western- love them all!

  3. In the past couple weeks, I’ve read the last Christina Dodd Chosen book, Wilder, which was awesome. I’ve also read Heather Graham’s The Unspoken, which was released recently, and which was up to her usual excellent level. I’ve reread Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Curse of Chalion, which is incredible and – yes – blows the others out of the water. I read Christine Bell’s Wife For Hire yesterday, because the excerpt appealed to me. I’ve also had some fun reading some of Stephanie Bond’s rereleases lately.

As for what’s coming up, the next Heather Graham will be out in a week or two, The Uninvited, and so will Tessa Dare’s A Lady By Midnight – which I CANNOT wait for! (Kim, if you like historicals and you haven’t tried Tessa Dare, go grab some of her stuff now. Her most recent project is a series about a small town called Spindle Cove – Spinster Cove – and they’re awesome. Three books and one novella so far; the third book being the one that’s coming in late August.) After that, there’s the next JD Robb coming soon…

Well! Susan Mallery’s The Best of Friends. Her stories always sweep me away. Carol Marinelli’s Putting Alice Back Together Again. Fabulous! One of those stories that manages to be funny while tackling really heavy subjects. Also about to dive into Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby. Great for younger and us older readers!!!

Just finished Lori Foster’s “Run the Risk”, Rob Thurman’s “All Seeing Eye”, Michelle Sagara’s “Cast in Peril” and M.L. Buchman’s “The Night is MIne”. All were wonderful! About to finish Jaymie Holland’s re-release of “Kept by Seduction” and just starting Alexandra O’Hurley’s “Deviant Knights”. I have been impressed by Buchman’s military romance, love Michelle Sagara and Rob Thurman, pleasantly surprised by Paula Graves who writes for Harlequin and always love JD Robb/Nora Roberts books. Hope the writing is going well.

I just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It was AMAZING. If you read it, would love to hear what you think about the ending! Currently I’m reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It makes me want to put on my hiking boots and make a pilgrimage of my own.
