Why I {Puffy Heart} Nathan Fillion

Right now I’ve got my fingers crossed that Nathan Fillion has a google alert for himself … because I would love for him to know he’s my biggest celebrity crush.  Big-gest.

Is it because he’s handsome?  Nope.

(He is handsome, by the way, in that classic way that’s going to age very, very well.  He was hunky as heck when he starred in the sci-fi series Firefly a decade ago, and he’s still gorgeous enough to make a believable romantic interest for the stunning Stana Katic.  But I don’t love him for his looks.)

Is it because he’s talented?  Nope.

(Though, again, he’s plenty talented … Castle‘s success and Firefly‘s cult status are testament to that.)

Is it because he’s polite?  Nope.

(Though he recently made a bit of a stir at Comic Con 2012 for having pre-printed autographed cards apologizing for his busy schedule that he could hand out to disappointed fans when he couldn’t stop for a chat or a photo.  So thoughtful!  OKAY, he still hasn’t provided The Bloggess with a picture of himself holding twine … I’m sure it’s only because he’s so busy bottle-feeding baby dolphins or crocheting bandages for orphaned otters or something equally fantastic, important, and time-consuming, and not at all an indication that he is impolite.)

For all his many fine qualities, the one that wins my heart is his lack of pretension.  This, my friends, is a man who will play Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and treat us to an off-key ditty about un-heroic heroes:

So I thank my girlfriend, Penny (yeah, we totally had sex)

She showed me there’s so many different muscles I can flex

There’s the deltoids of compassion, there’s the abs of being kind

It’s not enough to bash in heads, you’ve got to bash in minds.

Come on people, that’s good stuff.  And Fillion sings it while wearing a Simon-Cowell-tight t-shirt and ridiculous black rubber gloves (gauntlets??  I think they may be gauntlets).  Oh, and did I mention the off-key thing?  Yikes.

So, bottom line, I like a man who’s comfortable enough in his own skin to play the fool on occasion.  It’s why I have a soft spot in my heart for Will Ferrell, Bill Murray, and Matt LeBlanc (check out Episodes … seriously).  And it’s why I have a mega-celebrity crush on Nathan Fillion.

How about you?  Who’s your celebrity crush?  And does a guy who can poke fun at himself make your heart go pitter pat?

Absolutely! Well said. There is nothing more attractive than a man who can laugh at himself. Will Ferrell cracks me up. It’s not a crush I feel when I think of him, but I know he’d be a hoot to have as a friend. Matt LeBlanc is another matter =))))

I love Nathan Fillion! He’s hilarious as Captain Hammer and totally dreamy (yes dreamy) as Captain Mal.. He’s at the top of my celebrity crush list because he makes me laugh (if you don’t follow him on twitter, you should). There are plenty of hot men out there, but not so many that make me think I want to be friends and hang out with him, not just lust after him from afar :)

  3. Ahhh yep, I have a total celeb crush on Mr. Fillion :) He’s one of the very very few celebs I follow on Twitter :D He cracks me up and I love a man that can make me laugh :)

  4. I love Nathan Fillion even if he won’t hold twine. Have you seen his library ads, so much nerd sexy all in one place. But as much as I love him I’ve got to love Will Wheaton more. That’s a guy who pokes fun at his own celebrity for laughs and he’s adorable on Eureka. Or he was.

  5. I <3 Nathan Fillion, too. And the lack of pretension is a huge factor in that. Someday, I'm sure, he will hold that twine. And there will be rejoicing on the Internet. ;)

I don’t know jack about Nate Fillion, however, he is cute. Fact is I have too many crushes. Perhaps it’s time I narrow it down. Right at this moment it’s Zachary Levi. He’s just cute any way you slice it and he can somewhat carry a tune. Plus he’s kind of a dork but in a totally hot way that only adds to his charm.
